This Wednesday, February 22, the National Electoral Institute (INE) of Mexico will hold an Exhibition of Technology applied to electoral processes and citizen participation that seeks alternatives to modernize the country's electoral processes.

In order to learn about the technologies that allow a better development of democratic processes, the Electoral Organization Commission of INE will hold an exhibition where different technologies at the service of democracy will be presented.

The “Exhibition of Technology applied to electoral processes and citizen participation” will be held on Wednesday, February 22 in the Mexican capital and will host several organizations.

The event will be attended by leading companies, EVoting among them, which will have a space to show their technological advances in the different stages of the democratic processes.

In addition, Local Public Electoral Bodies (OPLE) will be present, who will present the mechanisms they have used to receive citizen participation and how technology has contributed to the simplification of processes and the reduction of deadlines.

Together with the OPLEs, INE is looking for alternatives to optimize processes with organizations that have experience in the use of technology at the time of participation.

Carla Humphrey, INE Counselor, mentions that technology is a good tool to reduce costs, guarantee the promptness of the results and eradicate the possibility of human error. She also emphasizes that this must be in compliance with the law.

“It is very valid to listen to the voices that have insisted that the electoral processes must be modernized, with the purpose of reaching several fundamental objectives for our political electoral system, such as maximizing the exercise of political and electoral rights, the optimization of voting, obtaining electoral results on the same day of Election Day, avoiding errors in the computations, as well as, in the medium term, making the electoral processes and even the citizen participation exercises cheaper”, Humphrey indicated.

Internet voting, implementation of electronic ballot boxes, biometric authentication, encrypted digital electoral rolls, among others, are some of the aspects in which INE can make incursions to make electoral processes more efficient.
