For the first time in its history, the University of Cuenca, Ecuador, held its elections via electronic voting with EVoting. The process was successful; the accompaniment and tools were very good, said the Coordinator of Computer Services.

On July 23rd, 2021, EVoting arrived in Ecuador. The University of Cuenca, one of the most prestigious in the country, conducted for the first time in its history a process under the electronic voting modality: It was the election of student representatives to the University and Student Council, that reached 79% of participation, equivalent to more than 11 thousand 500 votes.

“The tool fulfilled very well with what it offered to do, providing guarantees that the results were correct,” said Pablo Palacios, Coordinator of Computer Services of the University of Cuenca. The representative congratulated the EVoting team for the accompanying work. “They know what electoral processes are about, they manage a very clear methodology regarding all the phases that have to be conducted. In general, I think the process was successful; and that their support and their tools were very good”, he said.

The engineer believes that this type of process is viable and helps to strengthen institutional confidence in new technologies. “We want to promote this online voting service in a more formal way, because we have elections many times a year,” he said. He added that the platform allows them “to conduct a very serious, transparent and secure process”, highlighting its ability to comply with the election processes, both from the point of view of functionality and requirements. “That is the biggest gain we got here,” he concluded.
