UNIVERSIDAD DE CUENCA ACHIEVED HISTORIC PARTICIPATION IN ITS FIRST ELECTION WITH ELECTRONIC VOTING.

THE CAMPUS´ EXPERT IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES HIGHLIGHTED EVOTING’S SECURITY SYSTEM.

“The university has marked a historic milestone with the incorporation of electronic voting, with the objective of seeking the participation of all students, in addition to taking care of their health and guaranteeing democracy.” This is how the dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cuenca and president of the Electoral Tribunal, Ciro Larco, referred to the electoral process developed with the EVoters platform, on July 23rd.

The prestigious Ecuadorian campus carried out, for the first time in its history, an electoral process under the online modality, carrying out the Government, University Council and Students elections. On this occasion, it achieved a historic participation of 79% of the student body, equivalent to 11,709 votes.

The head of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC), Rodrigo Padilla, highlighted the EVoting security system. “Electronic voting is agile, transparent and secure. The system has an encryption method that guarantees the secrecy of the vote”.

Estefanía Mendieta Álvarez, a student of Medicine and Surgery, pointed out that it was “a quick and simple process. It is of vital importance that everyone participates in these spaces, as a guarantee democracy “ she said.

For EVoting’s Voting Manager, Felipe Lorca, it was “an honor to have participated in the first electronic voting process of a public university of this renown in Ecuador. The election was impeccable, with great voter participation”.

The Universidad de Cuenca is a public institution located in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, and is considered one of the most important houses of study in the country, with recognition at the Latin American level.
