“THIS VIRTUAL VOTING SYSTEM IS NOT THE FUTURE, IT'S THE PRESENT”

EXECUTIVE OF LA IBÉRICA, PERÚ'S BEST KNOWN CHOCOLATE COMPANY, WAS SATISFIED WITH THE FIRST INSTITUTIONAL ELECTRONIC VOTING.

The election of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee of the Peruvian chocolate company La Ibérica was held virtually for the first time. Being a traditional institution, with more than 100 years of history, there was expectation - and some fear - as to how this innovation would turn out. “There were no doubts, but there is always the fear of the first time, isn’t there,” confirmed Francisco Brousset, the company’s public relations officer. However, he did not hesitate to describe the whole process as “a success”.

Workers from Arequipa, Lima and Cusco participated, with a total participation of 83%. For Brousset, this confirms that it was “a very simple platform to use, very intuitive, and also very fast”.

The speed, especially in the counting process, was something that marked the difference with previous traditional processes: “The virtual counting is automatic, the platform already gives us the results ready and tabulated, which in the on-site format we still have to do the old-fashioned way. We have to do a vote count, a review and all that this implies,” he said.

Brousset maintains that, in his opinion, this voting system is here to stay. “If the pandemic has taught us anything, it is that virtuality helps us a lot in terms of saving time, of efficiency in procedures, such as these voting procedures, and it also helps us in companies like ours, which have offices in different cities. So, I believe that this virtual voting system is not the future, but the present and I believe that we will continue to count on it for voting in the coming years”.
