E-PARTICIPATION REACHES RECORD LEVELS

WITH A TOTAL OF 61 ELECTRONIC VOTES ELECCIONES? AND 60 ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLIES, MAY WAS THE BUSIEST MONTH IN THE HISTORY OF EVOTING.

We have said it several times this year: there is a notorious increase in the demand for electronic participation, which although it was boosted by the pandemic, today it seems to be reaching levels that go beyond the contingency.

With a total of 61 electronic votes and 60 electronic assemblies, May is the month with the highest number of processes in the seven years of EVoting. Compared to last year, when there were 89 processes -between voting and assemblies- an increase of 36% was recorded.

Mario Novoa, Commercial Manager, points out that, far from being a one-off situation, these figures reflect a trend that seems to be consolidating. “Not only have we had a constant increase in demand, but also a diversification of the type of institutions that require our services. In the past, our clients were mainly unions, professional associations and labor organizations. Now we have been joined very strongly by universities and cooperatives, among other institutions,” he said.

The auspicious figures add to the results so far this year, which total 393 processes, with 247 votes and 146 electronic meetings and assemblies. Of these processes, 31 have taken place in countries other than Chile.

The 61 ballots held in May recorded an average participation of 80% and a total of 25,122 votes received. The 60 assemblies, meanwhile, had 1,170 participants and 316 subjects discussed.

It seems that electronic democracy is here to stay.
