SEPTEMBER 2023: CITIZEN PARTICIPATION AND ACADEMIA TAKE CENTER STAGE

A great process of citizen democracy, together with an interesting debate on the processes of participation, mark September for EVoting. In addition, different universities in Latin America get involved with electronic voting.

Another month goes by and electronic voting is once again relevant. Everyday democracy sets the tone with a successful process in La Reina, Chile, and the academic world learns about the advantages and challenges of innovation.

Citizens take part in the construction of a new park for La Reina

From September 4 to 15, more than 8,000 people participated in the “Digital Consultation: A New Park for La Reina”, through EVoting’s EParticipa platform. The process was framed in the 60th anniversary of the commune.

“It has been a very interesting process, many people participated in a Consultation that, for us, is fundamental to give shape to a wonderful park that we managed to acquire, but that needs a lot of work and a lot of participation”, commented José Manuel Palacios, mayor of the municipality.

EVoting was in an important meeting of universities in Argentina

From September 18 to 20, the VI National Meeting of Universities MetaRed Argentina 2023 was held, an instance in which different Universities of the Region participated and EVoting was present.

The company was represented by its Executive Director, Mario Novoa, who spoke about the importance of adopting new technologies in the democratic projects of the academic world.

Encouraging participation: Reinventing the citizen’s voice digitally

In the framework of the 10 years of the first Citizen Consultation carried out with EVoting technology, the Operations Manager of the company, Felipe Lorca, made a rich reflection on the use of technological mechanisms in these processes.

“Citizen participation has always been essential in democracy. In the digital era in which we live, we have found in technology a possibility to amplify these voices in a way never seen before. Thus, exactly 10 years ago EParticipation was born (not with the same name, but the same service) which, more than a technological platform, is a service that takes charge of the integral citizen participation process and is a solution for everyday democracy”, mentions Lorca.
